SEONGNAM, Nov. 30 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seongnam municipal government in Gyeonggi Province is on track to use drones for the delivery of library books.
The city government said Monday that it will launch a pilot project for the proposed service within the first half of next year.
The service will use drones to deliver books from libraries to rental sites, including community welfare centers.
The Gumi Library in Bundang district will be used in the pilot project.
With a weight of 10 kilograms and 1 meter-wide wings, the drone will have a payload of up to 3 kilograms, which represents five to seven books.
After loading books at the library, the drone will fly to rental sites located within a radius of 1 kilometer, and drop the books at the landing sites.
Citizens will be able to borrow books using their library membership cards.
